Outstation route
Bangalore to Nagercoil Cab
Nagercoil is the main town of Kanyakumari district, tucked in the green southern tip of Tamil Nadu where the culture begins to blend with neighbouring Kerala. Here is how far it is from Bengaluru and how to plan the cab trip.
The route
Driving from Bangalore to Nagercoil
It is a long haul south on the national highways and state roads of Tamil Nadu. Route-planner data lists NH 44, NH 844, SH 73 and NH 944 as the main roads. The figures below are route-planner figures for driving without traffic or stops, from central Bengaluru.
| Road distance | About 635 km one way |
| Driving time (route planner) | About 8 h 30 min without traffic delays or stops |
| Main roads on the route | NH 44, NH 844, SH 73, NH 944 |
| Round trip | About 1,275 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing |
Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.
This is among the longest outstation drives we cover in Tamil Nadu, so the trip should be built around at least one overnight halt. Interstate permit charges and tolls are extra.
Things to see
What to see around Nagercoil
- Nagaraja Temple, the shrine the town is named after, a quiet temple with a distinctive Kerala-influenced style.
- Suchindram Temple, the Thanumalayan temple, known for its tall gopuram, carved pillars and a large Hanuman statue.
- Padmanabhapuram Palace, a wooden palace of the old Travancore rulers that stands in Tamil Nadu but looks distinctly Kerala in design.
- Mathur Hanging Trough, a tall aqueduct carrying water across a river valley, an impressive piece of old engineering.
- Kanyakumari, where the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean meet, and the Vivekananda Rock is a major attraction. Our Kanyakumari cab page has the details.
Plan your trip
Planning a trip to the far south
Because of the distance, treat Nagercoil as a multi-day trip rather than a quick getaway, and let the driver have a proper rest before the return leg. Many travellers use the town as a base for Kanyakumari and the temples and palace around it, then drive back to Bengaluru. Others continue into Kerala for a look at Trivandrum, which lies in the next state.
A sedan is fine for a couple. A family with bags will be more comfortable in an Innova Crysta or Hycross, and a Tempo Traveller works for a larger family or temple group. If you only need to be dropped at Nagercoil, we can arrange a one-way drop. If you are also thinking of the Tirunelveli side, see Bangalore to Tirunelveli cab.
