Outstation route

Bangalore to Nandi Hills Cab

Nandi Hills is the classic early-morning escape from Bengaluru: an old hill fort above the plains of Chikkaballapur district, famous for sunrise views over drifting cloud. Booking a cab means you can leave in the dark, let the driver handle the climb and be back in the city before the day gets busy.

The route

How the drive to Nandi Hills goes

From most parts of Bengaluru you head north to Hebbal and join NH 44, the wide highway that carries airport traffic. Beyond the airport you leave the highway and take the smaller roads that lead to the foot of the hill, where a winding ghat section with tight hairpin bends climbs to the top.

Road distanceAbout 70 km one way
Driving time (route planner)About 1 h 15 min without traffic delays or stops
Main roads on the routeNH 44
Round tripAbout 140 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

These are route-planner figures without traffic or stops. In practice, the city stretch before Hebbal decides how long your trip takes, which is one more reason to start early. The whole journey is inside Karnataka, so no interstate permit applies; any tolls and the parking charge at the hill are extra.

On the hill

What to see at Nandi Hills

  • Sunrise viewpoints: on many mornings, especially after rain and in the cooler months, the valleys below fill with mist and the sun rises above a sea of cloud.
  • Tipu’s Drop: a sheer cliff on the edge of the hilltop, linked by local tradition to Tipu Sultan.
  • Tipu Sultan’s summer retreat: the hill was used as a cool getaway in his time, and the old fort walls still ring the top.
  • Yoga Nandeeshwara Temple on the summit and the beautifully carved Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple in Nandi village at the foot of the hill.
  • Shaded walking paths, gardens and plenty of monkeys, so keep food and loose bags out of reach.

Entry arrangements, gate times and vehicle access to the hilltop have changed several times over the years. Check the current rules locally before you set out, and our driver will follow whatever is in force on the day.

Plan your trip

Timing a same-day Nandi Hills outing

At about 140 km for the full round trip, this is an easy same-day plan. Sunrise visitors usually leave the city well before dawn; others prefer a relaxed late-morning start, breakfast on the way and a walk around the fort when the crowds thin out.

Weekends and public holidays are very busy, with long queues at the base of the hill. A weekday visit is calmer. Carry a light jacket for the early morning chill at the top.

The hill sits close to other places in the same district, so you can extend the day:

  • The giant Adiyogi bust at the Isha centre near Chikkaballapur – see our Bangalore to Adiyogi cab page.
  • The temple town of Kolar to the east, covered on our Bangalore to Kolar cab page.
  • Devanahalli fort on the way back towards the airport.

Fares and vehicles

Your Bangalore to Nandi Hills cab fare and car choice

Your Bangalore to Nandi Hills cab fare is worked out like any outstation round trip: actual kilometres driven, with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance shown in the rate table. A one-day trip is therefore charged at the daily minimum even though the hill is close. Tolls, parking and any hill entry charges are paid extra.

Two to four people travel comfortably in a Dzire, Etios or Ciaz. Families with grandparents often pick an Innova Crysta for the easier entry and extra legroom on the bends. College groups and office teams can book a Tempo Traveller or a 21/24 seater mini bus. Only need a drop? Ask about our one-way taxi.
