One-Day Trips from Bangalore by Cab
A good day trip means leaving after an early breakfast, seeing something properly and being home for dinner. The places below fit that pattern, listed roughly from the shortest drive to the longest, with the route-planner distance for each.
Before you go
What makes a day trip realistic
For a same-day return, most people stay under about 150 km each way, which keeps the total driving to a reasonable amount. All the figures here come from route planners, measured from central Bengaluru, and exclude traffic, breaks and sightseeing time. Weekend traffic on the main highways can add a lot, so an early start matters more than a fast car.
If you would rather stay overnight, the weekend getaways guide covers longer drives.
Short drives
Quick outings with room to spare
Wonderla – about 30 km, about 35 min of driving without traffic. A large amusement park with water and dry rides on the Mysore road, so it is easy to spend the whole day there. Families with children usually go in a single car; a Dzire or Innova both work. See the Bangalore to Wonderla cab page.
Isha Adiyogi – about 66 km, about 1 h 15 min of driving without traffic. The towering Adiyogi statue of Shiva near Chikkaballapur is a calm, quick outing and can be paired with the hills nearby. Details are on the Bangalore to Adiyogi cab page.
Nandi Hills – about 70 km, about 1 h 15 min of driving without traffic. An old hill fort and sunrise viewpoint above the plains, known for Tipu’s Drop and the cool morning mist. Because the sunrise draws crowds, an early departure helps. Check current entry timings locally before you set off. See Bangalore to Nandi Hills cab.
Kotilingeshwara – about 90 km, about 1 h 15 min of driving without traffic. A temple complex in Kolar district centred on an enormous linga ringed by many smaller ones, an interesting stop for pilgrims and curious visitors alike. See Bangalore to Kotilingeshwara cab, and note that it combines well with Kolar.
Kolar – about 86 km, about 1 h 15 min of driving without traffic. Known for the old gold-mining history of Kolar Gold Fields, the Someshwara temple in town and the rocky Antaragange hills, popular with trekkers. Read the Bangalore to Kolar cab page for the route.
Longer day trips
Day outings that need an early start
Tumkur – about 105 km, about 1 h 30 min of driving without traffic. Tumkur is the base for the Siddaganga Matha, a respected religious institution, and for the forested hill of Devarayanadurga with its two Narasimha temples. See Bangalore to Tumkur cab.
Lepakshi – about 110 km, about 1 h 45 min of driving without traffic. A Vijayanagara-era temple of Veerabhadra with painted ceilings, a pillar said to hang slightly off the ground and a huge Nandi carved from a single rock nearby. Lepakshi lies in Andhra Pradesh, so interstate permit charges and tolls are extra. See Bangalore to Lepakshi cab.
Hogenakkal Falls – about 150 km, about 2 h 15 min of driving without traffic. Cauvery water tumbles through rocky channels where boatmen row visitors in round coracles. Water levels change with the season, so check conditions first. This trip crosses into Tamil Nadu, with interstate permit charges and tolls extra. See Bangalore to Hogenakkal cab.
Shivanasamudra Falls – about 135 km, about 2 h of driving without traffic. The Cauvery splits into the Gaganachukki and Bharachukki cascades here, and the falls are fullest after good rain. Read the Bangalore to Shivanasamudra cab page.
Srirangapatna – about 125 km, about 1 h 45 min of driving without traffic. An island fortress town on the Cauvery with the Ranganathaswamy temple, Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace and the mausoleum of Tipu and Hyder Ali. It is a good first stop on a Mysore day. See Bangalore to Srirangapatna cab.
Mysore – about 140 km, about 2 h of driving without traffic. The city of the Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and the Brindavan Gardens on the Cauvery. It is the longest drive in this list and makes for a full but doable day. Many travellers combine it with Srirangapatna on the way. See Bangalore to Mysore cab.
Planning
Turning the list into a good day
Pick one main place and one small one rather than racing between many. For example, Srirangapatna in the morning and Mysore in the afternoon, or Nandi Hills at sunrise followed by Isha Adiyogi. Tell the driver the sequence you want before you set off.
A day trip is billed as a round trip, with a minimum of 300 km per day, and tolls and parking are extra. If you would like a local-style booking within the city instead, see the full-day car rental page.
