These are route-planner figures without traffic or stops. Allow extra time for the last stretch into the hills, which is slower than the highway sections.
Ahobilam is in Andhra Pradesh, so interstate permit charges and tolls are extra on top of the table rates.
The shrines
What to see at Ahobilam
Ahobilam is a Vaishnava pilgrimage site linked to the story of Lord Narasimha and his devotee Prahlada. It is spread over a forested hill area and is divided into two main parts.
- Lower Ahobilam: the main temple complex and the usual starting point for visitors.
- Upper Ahobilam: the older hill shrine, reached by a short climb from the base.
- Nava Narasimha shrines: nine separate temples scattered in the forest and gorges. Some can be reached by road, while others need a walk or trek on foot.
Pilgrims should be ready for walking on uneven ground. Access rules, timings and any guide arrangements change, so check current details locally before you go.
Plan your trip
Planning a one-day or two-day Ahobilam visit
A one-way drive of about 335 km is a long journey for a single day, and seeing several shrines takes real time as well. Most families plan to leave very early, spend the next day at the temples and return after. If you want to see all nine Nava Narasimha shrines, plan a longer stay.
Ahobilam combines well with other temple towns in the area. Mantralayam and Srisailam are popular add-ons, and Kurnool is the main city in the district for a halt. If you are heading east, Tirupati is a typical next stop.
For a family of four or five, an Innova Crysta is a comfortable choice for the long drive. Temple groups often travel in a Tempo Traveller.
