Outstation route

Bangalore to Tiruchendur by Cab

Tiruchendur is a southern Tamil Nadu coastal town known for its Murugan temple on the seashore. The journey from Bangalore is long, so a private cab with a driver is a comfortable way to make the pilgrimage with family.

The route

The long drive south

The drive from Bangalore to Tiruchendur heads south through Tamil Nadu and is among the longer drives in the state. The route-planner path uses NH 44, NH 38, NH 32 and NH 844.

Road distanceAbout 605 km one way
Driving time (route planner)About 8 h without traffic delays or stops
Main roads on the routeNH 44, NH 38, NH 32, NH 844
Round tripAbout 1,205 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

Treat these as route-planner figures for driving without traffic or stops. Real journeys include food, rest and fuel halts, so most families break the journey with an overnight stay. Interstate permit charges and tolls are extra for this Tamil Nadu trip.

The temple

Why pilgrims come to Tiruchendur

The Subramania Swamy Temple (Murugan) stands right on the shore of the sea. It is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, known as the Arupadai Veedu, and the only one located on the coast. Devotees often take a dip in the sea before entering the temple.

Crowds build up around major festivals and on weekends, so check current darshan arrangements locally before planning your day. Early morning is usually calmer than the afternoon.

The town itself is simple and centred on the temple and the beach, so most visitors come for the darshan and a quiet hour by the sea rather than for sightseeing. Local stays and meals are easy to find near the temple, but it is wise to book rooms ahead during busy periods.

Plan your trip

Plan at least two days, preferably three

Because the distance is well beyond a single day of comfortable driving, plan for at least two days, with an overnight halt on the way down or in Tiruchendur itself. A third day gives breathing room for the return drive.

Many families link the visit with other southern stops. You can add Madurai and its Meenakshi temple, continue to Kanyakumari or Rameshwaram; Madurai is also a natural place to rest before or after the final stretch.
