Bangalore to Rameswaram Cab
Rameswaram, on Pamban Island off the Tamil Nadu coast, is one of the most important pilgrimage towns in India. A Bangalore to Rameswaram cab lets your family make the long journey in one comfortable car, with Madurai and other stops along the way.
The route
Driving from Bengaluru to Rameswaram
The journey starts south on NH 44 past Hosur and runs deep into Tamil Nadu. Route planners then use NH 536, NH 87 and NH 381B towards the coast. The last section crosses the sea to Pamban Island by the road bridge.
| Road distance | About 555 km one way |
| Driving time (route planner) | About 7 h 45 min without traffic delays or stops |
| Main roads on the route | NH 44, NH 536, NH 87, NH 381B |
| Round trip | About 1,105 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing |
Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.
Route-planner data gives about 555 km one way and about 7 h 45 min of driving without traffic or stops. With breaks, this is a full day of travel, so an early start from Bengaluru is a good idea.
This is an interstate trip into Tamil Nadu: interstate permit charges and tolls are extra and are added to the fare.
Things to see
Rameswaram and the island
- Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines and one of the Char Dham, famous for its very long pillared corridors.
- Agni Theertham, the sea front near the temple where many pilgrims take a ritual dip.
- The Pamban sea crossing, where the road bridge and the railway bridge link the island to the mainland, with wide views over the water.
- Dhanushkodi, at the tip of the island, known for its windswept beaches and the ruins of the old town.
- The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam memorial, honouring the former President, who grew up in Rameswaram.
Temple customs and access to Dhanushkodi can change, so check current details locally before you plan your day.
Plan your trip
How many days to keep
With a round trip of about 1,105 km, plan at least three days, and four if you want an unhurried visit. A common pattern is to drive down on day one, spend the next day in Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi, then break the return at Madurai for the Meenakshi Amman Temple.
Round trips are billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus driver allowance. On a long pilgrimage like this, the minimum is usually covered by the driving itself.
If you are returning by train, or continuing elsewhere, a one-way taxi to Rameswaram may work better.
Who it suits
Pilgrim families and groups
Rameswaram trips are often made by several generations together. For elders who need comfortable seats on a long drive, an Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross is a comfortable choice. Larger family or temple groups can book a Tempo Traveller or a mini bus. Ask us about seating that suits elders who need extra legroom, and keep a light bag handy for the temple visit and the sea dip at Agni Theertham.
