Airport transfer
Bangalore Airport to Ooty Taxi
Bengaluru is the nearest major airport for many visitors to Ooty, and a private cab turns the long road into a comfortable part of the holiday. Our drivers take you from Kempegowda International Airport to the Nilgiris and back.
The route
From the airport to the Nilgiris
This is a long intercity drive that crosses from Karnataka into Tamil Nadu. The route planner lists NH 275, NH 181, NH 766 and NH 150A among the roads on the way. Here are its figures between the airport and Ooty.
| To Kempegowda International Airport | About 330 km, about 4 h 15 min of driving |
| From the airport | About 330 km, about 4 h 15 min of driving |
| Main roads | NH 275, NH 181, NH 766, NH 150A |
Route-planner figures from OpenStreetMap data, without traffic delays or stops. Bengaluru traffic varies a lot by time of day, so allow extra time for your flight; we will suggest a pickup time when you book.
From central Bengaluru, the route planner shows about 295 km and about 3 h 45 min. All figures are route-planner driving times without traffic or stops. Because this trip crosses a state border, interstate permit charges and tolls are extra. Our Bangalore to Ooty cab page covers the same destination from the city.
At the destination
Ooty and the Nilgiri hills
Ooty, officially Udhagamandalam, is the best-known hill station of the Nilgiris. Visitors come for the Government Botanical Garden, Ooty Lake, and the view from Doddabetta, the highest point in the Nilgiris. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage line, runs here, and the tea estates around the town are part of the charm.
The approach involves hill sections with hairpin bends, and some stretches pass through forest areas where local rules and restrictions can apply. Check current conditions before you travel, and let your driver advise on timing.
Planning
Planning the transfer sensibly
A morning arrival gives you daylight for the entire drive. If your flight lands late, rest in Bengaluru and begin early the next day. For the return, aim to leave Ooty with plenty of time in hand, and keep your airline’s check-in cut-off in mind. Cold weather and mist can slow the last hill stretch.
Families with luggage often choose the Innova, Crysta or Hycross, while groups can enquire about a Tempo Traveller. We confirm the fare when you book, and the driver allowance and permits are discussed up front.
Pickup points
Pickups in Ooty and at the airport
In Ooty we can collect you from your hotel or cottage, or from central spots such as Charing Cross, the lake area or the railway station. Share your property name and a pin location, since many hillside roads are narrow. At the airport, send us your flight number and terminal (Terminal 1 or Terminal 2). For a different hill route, take a look at our Coorg airport taxi or the general airport taxi page.
