Bangalore to Tumkur Cab

Tumakuru, still widely called Tumkur, is a busy district town north-west of Bengaluru with a strong religious, educational and industrial identity. Whether you are visiting the Siddaganga Mutt, a college, a factory or family, a Bangalore to Tumkur cab gets you there and back without juggling buses.

The route

On the road from Bangalore to Tumkur

This is one of the most straightforward highway drives out of the city. You leave through Yeshwanthpur and the Peenya industrial belt and join NH 48, the multi-lane highway towards Tumakuru. Depending on where in the town you are heading, the route-planner path also uses short sections of NH 75 and NH 73.

Road distanceAbout 105 km one way
Driving time (route planner)About 1 h 30 min without traffic delays or stops
Main roads on the routeNH 48, NH 75, NH 73
Round tripAbout 205 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

The figures above are route-planner numbers without traffic or stops. Getting past Peenya and Nelamangala at peak hours usually takes the most time; once you are on the open highway the drive is smooth. Tumkur is within Karnataka, so there is no interstate permit, and highway tolls are charged extra at actuals.

Places to visit

What Tumkur and its surroundings are known for

  • Siddaganga Mutt: the large Lingayat monastery on the edge of the town, known across Karnataka for its free schooling and feeding of thousands of students, and closely associated with the late Dr Shivakumara Swamiji.
  • Devarayanadurga: a forested hill with the Yoga Narasimha and Bhoga Narasimha temples, and wide views over the surrounding country.
  • Namada Chilume: a natural spring in the rocks near Devarayanadurga, linked in local legend to Lord Rama.
  • Shivagange: the steep, cone-shaped hill with the Gangadhareshwara Temple near Dobbaspet, which lies along the same highway and makes a good stop on the way.
  • Madhugiri: further north in the district, known for its massive single-rock hill and old fort.

Tumkur also has several engineering and medical colleges and a growing industrial area, so many of our trips here are for students, parents and business visitors rather than sightseeing.

Plan your trip

Same-day trips, meetings and drops

With about 205 km for the round trip, a Tumkur visit fits easily in one day. A typical plan is an early start, a temple or mutt visit in the morning, lunch in town and a short drive up to Devarayanadurga before heading home.

For business travellers the cab can wait while you attend meetings or a factory visit and then bring you straight back. If you only need to reach Tumkur, for a new job, a hostel or a family function, book our one-way taxi instead of a full round trip.

Planning a wider loop? Tumkur pairs well with places on our other routes, such as Nandi Hills on a separate day, or a longer drive towards Hassan for the Hoysala temples.

Fares and vehicles

Bangalore to Tumkur taxi billing and car choice

A round trip is billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance in the rate table. Tolls and parking are extra. A short day trip to Tumkur is therefore charged at the daily minimum.

A Dzire, Etios or Ciaz is the usual pick for one to four people and for office visits. Families heading to the mutt with elders or lots of luggage often prefer an Innova Crysta. Student groups, wedding guests and devotee groups can travel together in a Tempo Traveller or a 21/24 seater mini bus.
