Outstation route

Bangalore to Sakleshpur Cab

Sakleshpur is a small hill town in the Western Ghats, surrounded by coffee, cardamom and pepper estates and wrapped in mist for much of the monsoon. A Bangalore to Sakleshpur cab is the easy way to reach a plantation homestay and explore the winding estate roads without driving them yourself.

The route

From the plains into the Ghats

The trip follows the Bengaluru–Mangaluru corridor: NH 48 out of the city to Nelamangala, then NH 75 west through Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan. After Hassan the land turns hilly and green, and Sakleshpur sits at the head of the ghat section that drops towards the coast. Depending on your start point the planner also routes through NH 73 and SH 71.

Road distanceAbout 235 km one way
Driving time (route planner)About 3 h 15 min without traffic delays or stops
Main roads on the routeNH 73, SH 71, NH 48, NH 75
Round tripAbout 475 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

Treat these as route-planner figures without traffic or stops. Estate roads beyond the town are narrow and steep, and some homestays are reached only on rough tracks, so share your exact stay location when you book. The trip stays in Karnataka, so there is no interstate permit; tolls are extra.

Things to do

Coffee country, forts and viewpoints

  • Manjarabad Fort: a star-shaped hilltop fort associated with Tipu Sultan, with sweeping views across the hills on a clear day.
  • Bisle viewpoint: in the Bisle forest area, known for its wide panorama of thickly forested Western Ghats ranges.
  • Plantation walks: many homestays and estates offer walks through coffee, pepper and cardamom plantations, where you can see how the crops are grown.
  • Sakleshwara Temple in town, which gives Sakleshpur its name, and the Hemavathi river flowing past it.
  • Misty drives: the roads around the town are lined with silver oak and estate shade trees, especially atmospheric during and just after the rains.

Plan your trip

Planning a Sakleshpur weekend

The full round trip is about 475 km, so Sakleshpur from Bangalore is best planned as a weekend or longer. Leave in the morning to reach your homestay by lunch, explore the next day and head back after breakfast on the third day, or stay longer and slow down.

The monsoon brings heavy rain, leeches on forest trails and occasional disruption on the ghat roads. Check road conditions before you travel in those months, carry rain gear and expect slower driving. The cooler, drier months that follow are pleasant for walks and viewpoints.

Sakleshpur combines naturally with nearby routes: the Hoysala temples covered on our Bangalore to Hassan cab page, the coffee hills of Chikmagalur, or Coorg further south. If you are continuing down the ghat to the coast, see our Bangalore to Mangalore cab page.

Fares and vehicles

Billing and the right car for estate roads

Round trips are billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance in the rate table. Tolls, parking and any hill-area charges are extra.

With steep estate tracks and luggage for a few days, most families choose an Innova Crysta, Innova or Hycross for its ground clearance and space. Couples can travel in a Dzire or Ciaz if their stay is on a good road. Friends booking a whole homestay together can take a Tempo Traveller, provided the access road suits a larger vehicle; tell us the address and we will advise. For just a drop, ask for a one-way taxi.
