The distance

Bangalore to Sira: distance and drive

Sira is about 125 km from central Bengaluru by road, with a return trip of about 245 km. Route-planner data shows about 1 h 30 min of driving without traffic or stops, though the Bengaluru side of the journey can add a good deal of time in the morning and evening rush.

Round tripAbout 245 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

The route is along NH 48 and NH 75, running past Nelamangala and Tumakuru before the turn-off for Sira. The highway is wide and well used, which makes the first part of the drive easy, and the last stretch towards the town is quieter and more rural.

At the destination

A town with a Mughal and Mysore past

Sira has a long history as a regional centre. In the seventeenth century it served as the headquarters of a Mughal province in the south, and it later passed to the Mysore rulers. Traces of that era remain in the town’s old fort walls and mosque architecture.

  • The old fort area and its surviving stone defences.
  • Indo-Islamic structures, including mosques and tombs, in the older part of town.
  • Quiet village lanes and farmland typical of this dry part of Tumakuru district, with coconut and groundnut fields.

It is not a big tourist site, so the visit suits those who enjoy local history and relaxed travel rather than ticketed attractions. Local access and timings should be confirmed on arrival.

Plan your trip

Best ways to use a Sira cab

Because the one-way distance is quite short, a same-day return from Bengaluru is realistic and comfortable. You can leave after the morning peak, spend a few hours in town, and be back by evening.

Sira also works as a gateway. From here you can continue to Hiriyur, Pavagada or Chitradurga without going back to the highway junction. Anyone with business in the town can use a point-to-point drop instead. Sira is in Karnataka, so no state permit applies, and tolls are paid extra.

Two or three passengers are well suited to a Dzire or Etios; groups of five or six with bags can use an Innova.
