Bangalore to Horanadu Cab

Horanadu, in the forested hills of Chikmagalur district, is home to the Annapoorneshwari temple. It lies about 345 km from Bengaluru, so a driver-driven cab and an overnight plan make the trip far more comfortable.

The route

Driving from Bangalore to Horanadu

Pilgrims often ask about the bangalore to horanadu distance before deciding between a day trip and a night halt. The route planner uses a mix of NH 48, NH 173, NH 73 and SH 106, climbing into the Western Ghats towards the end.

Road distanceAbout 345 km one way
Driving time (route planner)About 4 h 30 min without traffic delays or stops
Main roads on the routeNH 73, NH 173, SH 106, NH 48
Round tripAbout 690 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

Those figures are route-planner driving times without traffic or stops. The last stretch is hilly with bends and, in the rains, mist and slow-moving traffic, so most travellers add a good margin to the planner time.

The temple

About Horanadu

Horanadu is a small hill settlement on the Bhadra river, known across South India for the Annapoorneshwari temple, dedicated to the goddess of food and nourishment. The temple is well known for serving meals to visiting devotees, which is why many families plan the trip around lunch.

The surroundings are green coffee and areca country, and the temple is often combined with other places in the region such as Sringeri and Chikmagalur. Temple timings and any special rules can change, so check current details locally before you travel.

Plan your trip

Why two days works better

At this distance a same-day return is tiring, and ghat roads are not pleasant after dark. A realistic plan is to leave early, reach Horanadu by afternoon, stay nearby and return the next day, perhaps stopping at Hassan or Coorg if you want to build in sightseeing.

Round trips are billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance. Tolls, parking and any hill-area charges are extra. This is within Karnataka, so there is no interstate permit to arrange.

Who it suits

Families, pilgrim groups and one-way drops

Elderly travellers are usually more comfortable in an Innova Crysta or Hycross with its higher seating and extra legroom. For a group of relatives or a pilgrimage party, the Tempo Traveller means one vehicle for everyone. If you plan to continue elsewhere on the coast or return by a different route, ask about a one-way taxi.
