Outstation route
Bangalore to Belur & Halebidu Cab
Belur and Halebidu hold two of the finest Hoysala temples in Karnataka. Belur is about 245 km from Bengaluru, and a cab with driver lets you see both temples without worrying about connections.
The route
Bangalore to Belur by road
Most visitors want the bangalore belur distance first, then the driving time. The route planner takes NH 48 out of Bengaluru, then NH 75 and NH 73 through the Hassan district.
| Road distance | About 245 km one way |
| Driving time (route planner) | About 3 h 15 min without traffic delays or stops |
| Main roads on the route | NH 73, NH 48, NH 75 |
| Round trip | About 495 km of driving, plus any local sightseeing |
Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.
These are route-planner driving times without traffic or stops. Plan on a long lunch break on the road, since the two temples deserve unhurried time.
The temples
Chennakeshava at Belur and Hoysaleswara at Halebidu
- Chennakeshava Temple, Belur: a 12th-century Hoysala temple on the banks of the Yagachi river, still used for worship, famous for its soapstone sculptures and the bracket figures known as madanikas.
- Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu: the old Hoysala capital, Dwarasamudra, where the twin-shrined temple is covered with friezes of animals, gods and epics.
Both temples are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas. They sit a short drive from each other, so visiting both in a day is realistic. Check current visiting details locally, as timings can change.
Plan your trip
One-day trip or an overnight stay
Many people search for a one day trip to Belur Halebid from Bangalore. At this distance it can be done with a very early start, but you will spend most of the day on the road. A night in Hassan or Chikmagalur gives a calmer schedule and more daylight at the temples.
Round trips are billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance. Tolls and parking are extra. The trip stays within Karnataka, so no interstate permit is needed.
Add more stops
Build a Hoysala circuit
The road runs through Hassan, and Shravanabelagola is another popular halt on this side of the state. From Belur you can also continue to Chikmagalur for the coffee hills. Tell your driver which temples you most want to see, and he can pace the day accordingly.
Photography is a big draw here, so a sedan for two or an Innova Crysta for a family that wants room for camera bags are both good choices.
