Outstation route

Bangalore to Agumbe Cab

Agumbe is a small rainforest village in the Western Ghats, often called the Cherrapunji of the South for its heavy rain. It is about 360 km from Bengaluru, so go with a driver and plan to stay a night.

The route

How to reach Agumbe from Bangalore

If you are checking the bangalore to agumbe distance, expect a long day on the road. The route planner uses NH 48, NH 73, SH 27 and NH 173, with hilly roads towards the end.

Measured from central Bengaluru (Vidhana Soudha) using OpenStreetMap route data. Your exact distance depends on the pickup point and the route the driver takes, and real journey times are usually longer once city traffic, ghat sections and breaks are added.

These are route-planner driving times without traffic or stops. The ghat road above Agumbe has many sharp bends, so the last hour of the journey needs patience.

Things to see

Why people go to Agumbe

  • Sunset Point, where the sky over the Arabian Sea side of the Ghats turns gold on clear evenings.
  • The rainforest itself, home to the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, known for its work on king cobras.
  • Waterfalls such as Barkana and Onake Abbi in the surrounding forest, best after the rains.
  • The village’s fame as a filming location for the classic television series Malgudi Days.

Agumbe is quiet, wet and green. If you are expecting a busy hill station with shops and promenades, you will find something much simpler.

Plan your trip

Two days is the right amount

At this distance, a same-day return is not practical. Most travellers leave in the early morning, reach Agumbe in the afternoon for the sunset, stay overnight nearby and drive back the next day. You can pair the trip with Sringeri, Horanadu or Udupi on the way back if you want a longer coastal-and-hills circuit.

Round trips are billed on actual kilometres with a minimum of 300 km per day, plus the driver allowance. Tolls, parking and hill-area charges are extra. This is within Karnataka, so there is no interstate permit.

Good to know

Rain, mist and ghat driving

Agumbe receives very heavy rainfall, and the road can be wet, misty and slow even outside the monsoon. Fog may hide the sunset view completely, so treat the sunset as a bonus. Pack a light rain jacket. An Innova Crysta gives a smooth ride on bends; groups can ask about a Tempo Traveller.
