Bangalore to Bijapur (Vijayapura) Cab

Vijayapura, long known as Bijapur, was the capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty and is home to Gol Gumbaz, one of India’s best-known monuments. A cab with driver turns the long journey from Bengaluru into a manageable plan.

Things to see

Monuments of the Adil Shahi city

  • Gol Gumbaz, the tomb of Mohammed Adil Shah, famous for its enormous dome and whispering gallery.
  • Ibrahim Rauza, admired for its delicate proportions and carved stonework.
  • Jama Masjid, a large historic mosque in the old city.
  • Malik-e-Maidan, a massive cannon placed on a bastion.
  • Bara Kaman, an unfinished tomb complex of tall arches.

The monuments are close enough to cover in a day, though a slow day with breaks in the heat.

Plan your trip

How many days to allow

With this much distance each way, plan at least two days. A common approach is to drive up on day one, tour Gol Gumbaz and the other monuments the next morning and either start back or continue north.

Bijapur also fits neatly into a circuit with Hampi and Belgaum. See our pages for Hampi, Belgaum and Hubli when you plan a multi-city trip.

Couples are comfortable in a sedan, while families with luggage may prefer an Innova or Crysta. History tours with a larger party can ask about the Tempo Traveller.

Before you travel

Practical tips for visiting Vijayapura

The climate here is dry and hot for much of the year, so mornings and late afternoons are best for walking around the monuments. Carry water, a hat and comfortable footwear, as there is a fair amount of walking on stone floors and lawns.

Photography rules and entry arrangements at monuments can change, so check on the spot. Our round trip cab page explains multi-day billing in detail.
